Modernist Mirror, Italy, 1960s
A wall mirror with an organic, triangular form and rounded edges, executed in the aesthetic of mid-century Italian Modernism. The distinctive black profile subtly emphasises the irregular shape of the mirror glass, allowing the mirror to serve not only a functional but also a decorative purpose. Designs of this type grew popular in the 1950s and 1960s, as designers moved away from classic rectangles in favour of soft, free-flowing lines inspired by nature and architecture.
The mirror is made from a sheet of mirror glass set in a glass frame. The piece is preserved in a condition showing signs of age and use, including streaking and damage to the mirror surface.
