The first furnace in Bergdala was fired up in 1889 as a second works alongside Lindefors glassworks (now Strömbergshyttan); its founder was Alfred Sjö. After a fire in 1897, a new glassworks was built and stood for over 80 years. In 1922, a turbine was installed and the village was electrified, while in 1968 the furnace was converted to oil heating.

Bergdala is known for blue-striped glass, “Bergdalatroll” figurines and glass plaques bearing names, which were popular between 1970 and 1984; in Glasriket, only this glassworks produced them.

On 11 September 1981, the second building of the glassworks burned down, and in the 1980s and 1990s the works went through bankruptcy proceedings. It currently employs around 10 people and operates a round furnace with six pots – one of only two of its kind still operating in Sweden.
