Guido Bitossi founded the Maioliche artistiche Guido Bitossi manufactory in 1921; in 2021, the company marked its centenary. The Bitossi family has been documented in Montelupo Fiorentino, a Tuscan ceramics centre, since 1536.
In 1946, Aldo Londi became artistic director. In the 1950s, he created the Rimini Blu series, and in 1967 the “Gli onorevoli” line. From 1955 onwards, Ettore Sottsass visited the manufactory, where, together with Londi and local potters, he created ceramics bearing his name.
The company remains family-owned; in 2007, it launched the Bitossi Home brand. In 2021, the Archivio Museo opened, with more than 7,000 ceramics, run by Fondazione Vittoriano Bitossi.
