The plant in Zadziele near Żywiec was established in the 1870s as a chemical works. In 1921, it changed ownership and its profile, and, according to the history of its successor, was given the name Fabryka Mebli Stalowych „Wschód”. It produced metal beds and tubular steel furniture, and after the war increasingly specialised in hospital beds and medical equipment.
The decision to build dams on the Soła marked the end of Zadziele: in the 1960s, the waters of Lake Żywieckie flooded the village, including the buildings around the factory. In 1961–1964, a new plant was built in Żywiec, where production of dental chairs and operating tables began. Its successor is Famed Żywiec today. Tubular steel furniture from Zadziele appears at MIDMOD as individual pieces from the secondary market.
