Ansgar Fog and Erik Mørup founded the company on 1 July 1904 in Aarhus, initially as a wholesaler of iron goods. In 1906, they moved to Copenhagen and focused on lighting; the first lamp factory was established in 1915.
The company’s best-known period came when its design department was headed by Jo Hammerborg – from the late 1950s until 1980. His designs from this period include the Nova lamp (1963) and the Semi lamp, designed in 1967 by students Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. Sophus Frandsen, Jørgen Bo, Hans Due and Sidse Werner also collaborated with the company.
At the end of the 1970s, Fog & Mørup merged with Lyfa, and production moved to a shared factory in Ballerup. Some earlier designs, including Hammerborg’s Orient lamp, are now reissued by Fritz Hansen.
