The company’s history began in 1872, when Albert Stoll I established a bentwood chair factory in Koblenz (canton of Aargau), producing chairs for cafés and hotels. From 1919, another member of the family, Albert Stoll II, developed office chairs at the factory.
In 1926, the company developed “Federdreh” – the first swivel chair with spring suspension; the later name Giroflex derives from this solution. The Giroflex brand itself was introduced to the market in 1948, and from 1949 the company expanded its activities abroad: first in Belgium and Brazil, then in Germany, the Netherlands and France.
The headquarters, production facilities and research and development department remained in Koblenz. The group included the plastics factory Espisa AG. The historical information is based on an encyclopaedia entry (“Stoll Giroflex”); verification on the current manufacturer’s website is recommended.
At MIDMOD, Giroflex chairs – primarily office swivel chairs – appear as individual pieces from the secondary market. The manufacturer’s markings placed on the chair’s frame can help identify a specific model.
