Huta was established in 1924 by F. Dzwikowski; initially, it produced bottles. In 1927, it was acquired by Henryk Podkomorski, who gave it the name „Irena”. In 1935, a branch was opened in the premises of the former „Ino” glassworks. During the interwar period, the glassworks produced around 3,000 types of products, including Weck-type jars („Irena”), blown table glass, lighting glass and perfumery glass.
In 1961, production was switched to soda–potash–lime glass and a tank for coloured glass was commissioned. Between 1972 and 1976, the glassworks was expanded and technology for blown and hand-decorated crystal glass was introduced; crystal glass from Inowrocław was a hit in domestic trade in the 1970s.
Today, the plant operates as Irena Holding Group Sp. z o.o. w likwidacji and produces soda glass, mainly for export.
