The glassworks was founded in 1864 by Franz Losky as Oranienhütte; it produced hand-decorated lead crystal. After 1945, it came under Polish ownership; a decoration department was opened in 1946, and in 1950 it was placed under the Centralny Zarząd Przemysłu Szklarskiego i Ceramiki Szlachetnej (Central Board of the Glass and Fine Ceramics Industry) in Sosnowiec. In 1951, the glassworks began melting its own glass, and in 1953 it began producing decorative crystal and exporting it.

In 1961, Poland’s first regenerative tank furnace was commissioned there; the glassworks also produced pressed glass and operated a crystal painting workshop. From 1970, it was known as “Violetta”. At the beginning of the 1970s, it produced 800 tonnes of crystal annually – the highest output in the country – and in 1976 it was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

In 1980, it employed 2200 people and achieved a record production of 3500 tonnes of glass. It was a leading Polish exporter of crystal. The glassworks was closed on 31 December 2018.
