The earliest references to the glassworks in Zawiercie date from 1880, when 22 people worked there. In 1883–1884, it was purchased by Alojzy Reich (S. Reich & Ska). After the war, the plant was nationalised and reopened in 1945 as Państwowa Fabryka Wyrobów Szklanych w Zawierciu (State Glass Products Factory in Zawiercie); on 3 May 1950, its name was changed to Huta Szkła Gospodarczego i Oświetleniowego w Zawierciu.

In the 1950s, the glassworks produced, among other things, reflective and signalling glass, and established contact with the Glass Department of PWSSP in Wrocław. In the 1960s, the model room was headed by Józef Podlasek; in the 1970s, Maria Słaboń-Kapa designed there (she became head of the model room in 1995), as did Bogdan Kupczyk. From the 1960s, a significant part of its output was exported, including to France, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Italy, the USA, Canada, Venezuela and New Zealand.

In 1986, the production of soda glass ended, and the glassworks produced only lead crystal glass. In 1998, it was converted into a joint-stock company; in 2009, it was taken over by private investors, and in 2016, it declared bankruptcy.
