The company’s origins date back to 1934, when Angelo Molteni (born 1912) founded a workshop in Giussano, Brianza. In 1947, the “Arredamenti di Angelo Molteni” enterprise employed more than 60 people. In 1955, a chest of drawers designed by W. Blaser won first prize at the Mostra Selettiva in Cantù, and in 1961 the company took part in the first Salone del Mobile.

In 1968, Luca Meda designed the Iride system for Molteni; in 1973, Tobia & Afra Scarpa made their debut here; in 1979, the Z2 model by Marco Zanuso was created, and from 1980 the company worked with Aldo Rossi. In 1975, Molteni entered the contract market, and in 1979 Dada joined the group. In 1994, it received the Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement, and in 2015 it opened the Molteni Museum in Giussano.
