The plant in Nowe nad Wisłą was opened in June 1945 as Państwowe Zjednoczone Zakłady Stolarskie (State United Joinery Works). Following successive reorganisations, from 1951 it operated as Nowieńskie Fabryki Mebli and from 1952 was subordinate to Centralny Zarząd Przemysłu Meblarskiego (Central Board of the Furniture Industry); between 1965 and 1972 it was known as Nowieński Ośrodek Przemysłu Meblarskiego (Nowe Furniture Industry Centre). In 1961, a new large factory was established on Fabryczna Street. Employment rose from 196 people in 1945 to 1227 in 1973.

About one quarter of production was exported – to the USSR, Hungary, Sweden and Great Britain; furniture from Nowe also furnished Polish passenger ships. In 1976, the company was renamed Pomorskie Fabryki Mebli (Pomeranian Furniture Factory), was commercialised in 1991, and in 1992, 80% of its shares were bought by the German company Klose, which operated the plant as Klose Pomorska Fabryka Mebli.
