The company's origins date back to Glashüttenwerk Peill und Sohn, a glassworks founded in Düren in 1903. In 1947, it merged with Putzler, whose roots date back to 1869, forming Peill+Putzler Glashüttenwerke.
Among those who worked with the company were Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Wilhelm Braun-Feldweg, Helmut Demary, Horst Tüselmann, Dieter Sieger and Aloys F. Gangkofner, who designed blown-glass lamps for it from 1953 onwards. The brand's products won 86 iF awards. In the mid-1990s, production was moved to Slovenia, Poland and the Czech Republic, and in 2005 the company declared bankruptcy. The name was later used by Paul Neuhaus; Peill+Putzler Leuchten GmbH & Co. KG, based in Hemer, is currently operating.
