Founded in Paris in 1960 by Philippe and François Roche together with the Chouchan family, the company initially imported Scandinavian furniture. From 1961, it expanded through a franchise model. Roche Bobois operates as a furniture publisher and showroom network, commissioning production from external manufacturers.
Hans Hopfer, creator of the “Mah Jong” sofa, is associated with the company; the collaboration began with a meeting in 1970, and the model was initially called “Lounge”. Since 1990, “Mah Jong” has been the brand’s best-selling product. The company is listed on Euronext Paris.
