Charlotte Perriand was born on 24 October 1903 in Paris, where she also died on 27 October 1999. From 1920 to 1925, she studied at the École de l’Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs. Her ‘Bar sous le toit’, shown at the Salon d’Automne in 1927, opened the way to Le Corbusier’s studio.

In 1928, the team of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Perriand produced, among others, the B301 and B306 models and the LC2 Grand Confort armchair; Britannica also attributes LC1 and LC4 to the team. After the war, Perriand developed a kitchen prototype for the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille (1950) and the interiors of Maison du Brésil (1959), then designed for the resorts of Méribel and Les Arcs, whose first buildings were completed in 1969. Her Nuage bookcase is produced by Cassina.

She collaborated, among others, with Jean Prouvé and Isamu Noguchi, as well as with Léger, Goldfinger and Costa. Her work was presented in retrospectives at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (1985), the Design Museum in London (1998) and Centre Pompidou (2005–2006).
