Ercole Barovier (1889–1974), son of Benvenuto Barovier, directed the artistic work of the family glassworks on Murano for several decades. Following its merger with S.A.I.A.R. Ferro-Toso, the company adopted the name Barovier & Toso in 1942; Ercole Barovier was responsible for its artistic direction until 1972.

He developed many series of art glass: Primavera (1929–1930), Crepuscolo, Autunno Gemmato and Marina Gemmata (1935–1936), Barbarici (1950s), Dorici, Caccia and Rotellati (1960s–1970s), and A Tessere (1972). In 1935–1936, he used the technique of colouring glass while hot without fusing it (“colorazione a caldo senza fusione”).
