Georges Jouve was born in 1910 in Fontenay-sous-Bois and died in 1964 in Aix-en-Provence. From around the age of 17, he studied at École Boulle, followed by Académie Julian and Académie de la Grande Chaumière; he also worked as a theatre set designer. During the war, he was taken prisoner and escaped; he found refuge in the pottery-making village of Dieulefit, where he learned ceramics.
From 1944, he ran a studio in Paris. Jacques Adnet invited him to take part in the exhibition “La Céramique Contemporaine” for Compagnie des Arts Français. His work was shown, among other places, in Rio de Janeiro (1946), Vienna and Barcelona (1947), Milan and Helsinki (1948), and Cairo and Rome (1950).
