Hans Bellmann was born on 25 September 1911 in Turgi. After studying architectural drafting in Baden, he studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin (graduated in 1933, including under Josef Albers), then worked for Mies van der Rohe. From 1934 to 1938, he was associated with Wohnbedarf AG in Zurich; from 1945, he worked as an independent architect and designer. He taught, among others, at Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich (1948–1955) and at HfG Ulm (1953–1954).
The Einpunkt-Stuhl chair brought him an award in 1952. The GA chair from 1955, produced until 1970, received an award in 1956 and was shown at Expo 64 in Lausanne. For Strässle Söhne, he developed the Sitwell collection (1955–1961), which, according to the source, featured Europe's first industrially produced polyester shells. He died on 26 October 1990 in Wiggwil.
