He was born in 1906 in Siedlce. From 1926 to 1930, he studied at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts in Warsaw, and from 1930 to 1936 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Before the war, he worked in drawing, painting and sculpture.

He became interested in glass after the Second World War. In 1945, he completed a practical glassmaking course at Huta „Julia” and designed utility glass for it. In the early 1950s, he taught in the glass studio of a state art college. He then focused on art glass; from the 1960s, as an independent artist, he worked at glassworks in Ożarów, Wołomin and Targówek.

He created series of glass forms inspired by nature, music (Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Lutosławski) and Norwid's poetry, including the Zima series. To deform the bubbles, he used massive wooden forks of his own design, filling the bubbles with small fragments of broken glass. His methods drew on historic traditions of shaping glass while breaking some of their rules. He influenced new trends in Polish art glass and inspired, among others, Jerzy Olszewski. His works are held, among other places, in the collection of the National Museum in Kielce. He died in 1993 in Warsaw. He should not be confused with the poster artist Henryk Tomaszewski.
