Pier Giacomo Castiglioni was born in Milan on 22 April 1913 and died there on 27 November 1968. He was the son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni and the brother of Achille and Livio. In 1937, he graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan.
In 1938, he opened an office in Milan with his brother Livio; in 1939, together with Livio and Luigi Caccia Dominioni, he designed the Phonola 547 radio with a Bakelite casing. Achille joined the office in 1944, and Pier Giacomo worked with him until his death. Some works by the Castiglioni brothers are held in the MoMA collection in New York.
