The company was established in 1889 as a locksmith's workshop and manufacturer of ornamental metal products. In 1920, it began producing tubular steel furniture, and in the 20th century also office chairs, which became the company's main area of activity.

In 1980, Drabert patented a work chair described by the company as the world's first designed for computer work, and in 1991, a mechanism that automatically adjusts to the user's weight. In 2010, the brand became part of the Swedish group Kinnarps, where it offers seating for offices and meeting rooms, including the Espera, Claro and Tulio series.
