The company's origins date back to 1943, when Bertil Svensson built his first lamp – a floor lamp for his mother. In 1945, together with Helmer Andersson and Harald Ulfenborg, he founded Fagerhults Lampindustri, initially housed in an outbuilding on the family farm in Fagerhult. In 1947, a new factory with an area of 98 m² was established, and in 1948 the company introduced a collection of fluorescent light fittings. Around 1958, it received an order for 5,000 fittings for the tax office in Stockholm.
Bertil Svensson ran the company from 1949 to 1984, acquiring all the shares in 1969. The company later operated as Fagerhults Belysning AB; at the end of the 1980s it was taken over by Almedahl, followed by Latour in 1993, and in 1997 the company was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. In 2006, Svensson received an honorary doctorate from Jönköping University; he died the same year at the age of 86.
According to DigitaltMuseum, the Fagerhult Group included the Ateljé Lyktan workshop from 1974, and in 1977 the group bought Kosta Lampan – Pera Sundstedt's Hinken lamp then became part of the Lyktan range.
