Le Klint was established around 1943, when Tage Klint turned the family technique of pleating lampshades into a business. The company's name derives from Lise Le Charlotte Klint, the first manager of the shop in Copenhagen. The shades were folded by hand – initially from paper, and in later years also from acrylic and foil.

From 1967–1978, Poul Christiansen designed for Le Klint, including the Sinus line. The company is also associated with designs by other members of the Klint family – Kaare Klint, who is credited with, among others, the LK 101 “Fruit Lantern” lamp, and Esben Klint (1915–1969).
