The company was founded in 1834 by Michael Nachtmann in Unterhütte in the Upper Palatinate. In 1900, the company was taken over by Zacharias Frank, and its headquarters became Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria.

In 2004, Nachtmann came under the ownership of Riedel Glas. The group's headquarters remain in Neustadt an der Waldnaab, while crystal is produced at plants in Weiden and Amberg. Nachtmann operates as one of the group's brands, alongside Riedel and Spiegelau.

At MIDMOD, Nachtmann glass and crystal appear as individual pieces from the secondary market.
