Bukhara Oriental Rug, Pakistan, 1960s

Handwoven Oriental rug made in Pakistan in the 1960s. Traditionally woven as a flatweave and dyed in shades of blue and grey. It was woven using natural wool and cashmere. Thanks to appropriate treatment and polishing, the wool acquires a beautiful sheen. It has a high knot density, making the rug durable. Today, Bukhara rugs are considered among the finest rugs produced in Pakistan. The rug is decorated with repeating geometric patterns. Handwoven rugs are made using techniques that give the individual sections structural integrity. They are made from hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of threads tied to a cotton or wool rug foundation. Handwoven rugs are created by repeatedly passing the warp through the rug’s weft. These techniques ensure that each part of the rug is an integral part of its structure. Rug production in Pakistan is similar to production in India, and following the partition of these countries, most Muslim weavers moved to the Pakistani side.

The rug has been preserved in its original vintage condition. Before shipping, the rug will undergo professional cleaning and will be ready for use.
