Description

Oriental rug, Afghanistan, 1970s

Oriental rug made in Afghanistan in the 1970s. These rugs are handwoven by Turkmen people in central and northern Afghanistan. Natural dyes, usually plant-based, are used to achieve rich colours. Rugs are generally medium-sized. Many patterns and colours are used, but the traditional and most characteristic is the octagonal elephant’s-foot pattern [Bokhara], often with a red ground. The rug’s weft is made of wool, while the warp is cotton.

The rug has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It shows signs of wear associated with age. Before shipping, the rug will undergo professional cleaning and will be ready for use.
