Teak sideboard by Skeie & Co. Norheimsund, Norway, 1960s
Description
A magnificent sideboard exemplifying classic Scandinavian design from the 1960s, whose main aim was to combine simplicity of form with everyday functionality. Its slender form, set on tapered legs, four doors lockable with a key (the key is included with the sideboard), and four centrally positioned drawers create a composition characteristic of Scandinavian modernism. The recessed handles emphasise the minimalist character of the piece without disrupting the smooth line of the front.
The sideboard was produced by the Norwegian manufacturer Skeie & Co. Norheimsund and crafted from teak, valued for its durability, stability, and distinctive grain pattern. The warm colour of the wood and subtly rounded edges give the piece a calm, timeless appearance that works equally well in interiors inspired by mid-century modern style and in more contemporary arrangements.
The piece has undergone meticulous, professional restoration, including the removal of old finishes, staining, and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. Thanks to this work, the sideboard looks magnificent and will serve its new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.
The interior layout was designed with convenient storage in mind. Two spacious cabinets concealed behind the doors make efficient use of the available space, while the four central drawers facilitate the organisation of smaller items. Particular attention should be paid to the top drawer, which contains two smaller drawers inside, allowing jewellery and watches to be stored. This makes the sideboard suitable for a living room, dining room, study, or bedroom.
Stylistically, the piece represents Scandinavian modernism—a movement that set the standards for design in the mid-20th century. Clean lines, minimal decoration, and an emphasis on the natural beauty of wood are among its most important characteristics, ensuring that this type of sideboard remains relevant today.
