Dining Set, Table + 4 Chairs, designed by Mart Stam, Czechoslovakia, 1930s

A modernist dining set from the Bauhaus era, produced in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. The set consists of a round table and four seats designed by Mart Stam – two armchairs (model S43F) and two armless chairs (model S43). The seating is made in Stam’s characteristic style: a chrome-plated tubular steel cantilever frame combined with moulded plywood. The furniture most likely came from one of the Czech factories associated with Thonet (Slezák, Mücke-Melder, Kovona, or similar licensed production). The wood has been fully restored – it has a new, subtle and very natural finish that looks fresh and refined. The chrome has been polished and retains a beautiful, authentic period patina. Very good condition, with no dents or structural damage.
