Large antique wooden bowl with metal hoops, 1960s
Description
Large, striking bowl made using traditional cooperage techniques from wooden staves reinforced with two wide metal hoops.
Its simple, undecorated form and the natural, warm tones of the wood give it a distinctly rustic character.
The bowl has a diameter of approximately 44 cm and a relatively shallow, broad shape. Vessels of this type were used as large household and utility bowls, including for washing, soaking, or preparing and storing various items. However, the exact original purpose of this particular object cannot be definitively established.
The object most likely originates from Europe and dates from around 1960–1975. Its construction draws on a much older cooperage tradition; however, the method used to make the metal hoops and the character of the woodwork suggest the 20th century rather than the 19th century.
Style: rustic, country, folk / traditional craftsmanship
Period: second half of the 20th century
Date: circa 1960–1975

An original, decorative, and practical vintage piece that could make an interesting addition to a rustic, country, or eclectic interior.
