PRL Sideboard, Bytom Furniture Factories, Poland, 1960s
Description
This PRL sideboard, manufactured in the 1960s by Bytom Furniture Factories, forms part of the “Syrius” suite (type 1050), representing the tradition of Polish modernist design.
The cabinet is finished with walnut veneer, with the grain pattern accentuated by the symmetrical arrangement of the veneer.
The base and structural load-bearing elements are made of solid beech wood, shaped into turned legs that taper towards the bottom.
The functional layout comprises a section of four drawers on the left and a storage compartment with veneered sliding doors on the right.
Inside the cabinet is one removable short shelf, allowing the interior to be adapted for storing larger items, including vinyl records.
The doors feature the original recessed metal handles characteristic of furniture from the “Syrius” series.
The piece has undergone a full restoration.
