Acton Bjørn was born on 23 September 1910 in Copenhagen and died on 20 June 1992 in Charlottenlund. He studied architecture and urban planning, and began working as a designer during the Second World War. In 1950, he founded Bernadotte & Bjørn Industridesign with Sigvard Bernadotte – one of the first Scandinavian industrial design studios, based in Copenhagen with branches in New York and Stockholm.
By 1964, the studio had produced, among other things, stainless steel kitchen utensils for Modernum (1954) and the Margrethe bowl for Rosti (1950), still in production today; its clients included Husqvarna, Facit and AGA. In 1965, he opened his own studio and designed the Beolit 500 transistor radio for Bang & Olufsen, with a teak casing, produced from 1965 to 1969.
