Aleksander Kuczma was born in 1935. He trained as a sculptor and was the son of a sculptor. He took his first job at Poznańska Fabryka Mebli, and from 1964 he experimented with synthetic materials.
He collaborated, among others, with Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Meblarstwa (OBROM, Furniture Research and Development Centre), Lubuska Fabryka Mebli w Świebodzinie, Wyszkowska Fabryka Mebli, furniture factories in Olszyna and Gryfów Śląski, Rzeszowska Fabryka Mebli and FAMOS, which produced ship furniture. He designed the Kal armchair (1969; a short OBROM series was produced in 1972), the Kuba armchair made of polyurethane foam for Świebodzin, Essex (1974), the Gama set (1976, with Juliusz Kowalski, Wyszków), Jumbo (1979), and the Gryf and Bosman sets.
The Björn set was made around 1975 at a factory in Olszyna Lubańska and was partly exported to Austria. In the 1990s, Kuczma stopped designing on a large scale for factories and devoted himself to work at a university.
