Anna Castelli Ferrieri was born in Milan on 6 August 1920 and died there on 22 June 2006. From 1938 to 1943, she studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan under Franco Albini, as one of its first female graduates. She co-founded Movimento di studi per l’architettura, co-edited “Casabella-Costruzioni” in 1946 and opened her own practice.
She designed houses, hospitals, churches and industrial buildings; from 1959 to 1973, she worked with Ignazio Gardella, including on the Kartell headquarters and Alfa Romeo buildings. Her husband, chemist Giulio Castelli, founded Kartell in 1949, and she became its chief designer.
