Arthur Percy was born on 10 August 1886 in Vickleby on Öland and died there on 22 June 1976. He studied at the Konstnärsförbundet school in Stockholm under Richard Bergh, and from 1908 in Paris at Henri Matisse’s academy. He returned to Sweden in 1913; from 1920 to 1922 he lived in France again. As a painter, his work represented post-Impressionism.
From 1923 to 1960, he was artistic director of Gefle Porslinsfabrik, for which he designed vases and tableware. His patterns drew on Rococo and Art Deco. A vase made by Gefle around 1950, designed by him and signed “Arthur C:son Percy”, is held in the collection of Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
