Bertil Fridhagen was born on 16 February 1905 in the parish of Norra Sandsjö and died there on 23 March 1993. He grew up in Bodafors; he began as a cabinetmaker at AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna and was a pupil of the architect Carl Erik Ekholm, then studied at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm.
After working at Sandsjö Möbelfabrik (1937–1939), he became chief architect of Svenska Möbelfabrikerna in Bodafors, succeeding Ekholm. In 1964, his models accounted for two-thirds of the company’s domestic furniture production. His greatest success was the Variett series; other series included Librett (California State Fair award, 1956), Facett, Bonett and Reno. He also designed buildings and interiors, including a church in Bodafors.
