Jacob Jensen was born on 29 April 1926 in Copenhagen and died on 15 May 2015. He was the son of an upholsterer; after seven years of schooling, he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts to study furniture design, graduating in 1952 with a specialisation in industrial design.
From 1952 to 1958, he worked at the first Danish industrial design studio, Bernadotte & Bjørn, becoming its head in 1954; he co-created the Margrethe bowl. In 1958, he founded Jacob Jensen Design in Frederiksberg. He designed more than 500 products – radios, watches, telephones, scales, glasses and kitchen equipment – and is best known for his work for Bang & Olufsen. His work is held, among others, by MoMA, Nationalmuseum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
