Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist studied in England in the 1940s and at Konstfack in Stockholm. From 1952, she designed on contract for NK Triva, the furniture line of Stockholm department store NK. She also worked with Coop, Opé Möbler and AC Collection in Kristianstad, and from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with the KF cooperative.

Her best-known design is the Stora Kraal armchair from 1952 – made of rattan, on a slender steel base. In 1963, she designed the Skrindan armchair for Opé Möbler, in the 1970s the Eden garden collection in beech with brass legs, and for KF the mahogany furniture series “Kära släkten”.

In 1952, her work was shown at the “52 stolar 52” exhibition at Röhsska museet in Gothenburg, and in 1992 Waldemarsudde in Stockholm organised her retrospective. Hörlin-Holmquist’s designs are held in the collections of Nationalmuseum and Möbeldesignmuseum. She died in 1997.
