Zjednoczenie Sprzętu Oświetleniowego i Elektromechanicznego „Polam” (Lighting and Electromechanical Equipment Union) was established on 31 December 1971; from 1982, it operated as an association of manufacturers. It took its name from Fabryka Żarówek Polam in Pabianice and originated from Kombinat Źródeł Światła UNITRA-Polam.
The union's plants placed the word Polam and its logo before their names. They included lighting equipment plants in Gdańsk, Gostynin, Piła, Wilkasy and Kętrzyn (Polam-Farel), a lighting glassworks in Pieńsk, and a factory in Pułtusk.
In 1989, the union was dissolved, and the plants began producing under their own brands.
