Sibast is a Danish furniture company founded in 1908 by cabinetmaker Peder Olsen Sibast on Funen. His son Helge Sibast (born 1908) served an apprenticeship in the family workshop and subsequently took over its management. Information about the company’s history comes from corroborating commercial sources.
In 1953, Helge Sibast designed chairs no. 7 and no. 8. In the 1950s, the company worked with Arne Vodder. In 1984, Sibast changed owners, and in 2012 the brand was revived by Helge Sibast’s grandson, Ditlev Sibast, together with his wife Anna; the reissue of chair no. 8 was nominated for the German Design Award 2019.
