Pair of armchairs designed by Marian Grabiński, Krakowskie Fabryki Mebli, PRL, 1960s
PRL armchairs from the Typ 1038 furniture suite, designed by Marian Grabiński and manufactured by Krakowskie Fabryki Mebli in the late 1960s.
Made of beechwood, the armchairs feature a gently contoured silhouette, an openwork backrest with vertical spindles, and bell-shaped legs, the signature feature of the Typ 1038 suite.
The standard Typ 1038 furniture suite included a single armchair; this pair was created by combining armchairs from two separate suites. (Today, even a single armchair is exceptionally rare on the market.)
The seat and backrest are fitted with separate, reversible, flat cushions filled with natural material (coconut matting).
For this pair, a textured upholstery fabric was selected, green on one side and white on the other.

The armchairs are an excellent example of modernist design from the 1960s.
The armchairs have undergone professional restoration.
