Description

The pair of “Pipeline” pendant lamps, model PM10, was designed by Ole Pless Jørgensen for the Danish company Nordisk Solar. This design was created at a time when Scandinavian design was increasingly drawing inspiration from industrial aesthetics and a more technical approach to form. The lamps are preserved in original, very good condition.

The lamps’ construction is based on elongated, cylindrical metal bodies, giving them a distinctly vertical and orderly character. The lower section is shaped to resemble a segmented structure, influencing the way the light is diffused while also serving as a recognisable element of the design. The uniform colour emphasises the purity of the form and the utilitarian character of the whole.

The PM10 model belongs to a strand of designs in which light is precisely controlled and the form is subordinated to function. The set of two lamps allows for coherent illumination of a larger area and works well above a table, kitchen island or in a workspace where evenly distributed, directional light is important.

Ole Pless Jørgensen was one of the Danish designers active in the second half of the 20th century whose work focused on a functional approach to design and the use of modern production technologies.

Nordisk Solar is a Danish company founded in 1919, specialising in the production of architectural and industrial lighting. In the 1960s and 1970s, the company collaborated with many designers, creating lamps with a distinctly utilitarian character that were used in both private and public spaces.
