Description

This Danish desk, designed by Chr. Rasmussen and made by Randers Møbelfabrik, is an example of functional Scandinavian design from the mid-century modern period. Furniture from this manufacturer was produced mainly from the 1950s to the 1970s and was characterised by simple construction, good workmanship and an emphasis on practicality.

The model shown in the photographs is made of oak, which is less typical than the commonly used teak, but consistent with the practice of Danish manufacturers, who also used oak for furniture with a more solid, utilitarian character. The construction is simple and stable, with a clearly defined frame and straight legs.

The desk features five drawers—three on the left and two on the right. The two upper drawers are fitted with original organisers, enhancing its functionality in everyday use. A distinctive feature is the set of aluminium handles with a restrained design, which fits well with the style of the period.

The form of the piece reflects the principles of Scandinavian modernism: it is orderly, free of unnecessary details and subordinated to function. As a result, the desk works equally well as a work desk and as an interior furnishing element that does not dominate the space.

Good condition, with visible signs of use, mainly on the tabletop, which is typical of furniture of this type and age. The manufacturer’s mark has been preserved.
