This Danish Louisiana pendant lamp was designed by Vilhelm Wohlert and Jørgen Bo for Louis Poulsen in the 1960s. It was associated with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art project in Humlebæk, which both architects worked on for many years. The model’s name refers directly to this location.

The piece is made of metal, lacquered in grey on the exterior, with a light-coloured interior that enhances light reflection. Its distinctive hemispherical form reflects the space-age aesthetic: simple, geometric and subordinate to function. The lower section features a diffuser (light-diffusing grille) that reduces glare and evenly distributes light downwards.

The design is an example of the Scandinavian approach to lighting: the light is soft, functional and well controlled, making the lamp suitable both above a table and in workspaces. Its form is restrained yet well proportioned, allowing it to work well in a variety of interiors, from classic to more contemporary settings.

Very good condition, with minor signs of use in the form of a small abrasion on the rim (visible in the photographs). The manufacturer’s mark is preserved, which is uncommon in this type of model.

Vilhelm Wohlert and Jørgen Bo were Danish architects associated with modernism. They are best known as the designers of the Louisiana Museum, where architecture and light play a key role. Their designs are characterised by functionality and a calm, orderly form.

Louis Poulsen is one of Denmark’s most important lighting companies, operating since the late nineteenth century. The brand collaborated with leading designers and architects, placing emphasis on the quality of light and user comfort—principles that became one of the foundations of Scandinavian design.
