The Kolding sofa was designed by Danish designer Erik Wørts for IKEA in the 1960s. Its distinctive construction is based on a slender, slightly tapered oak frame, which also forms the armrests and legs. Its simple form and exposed construction give the sofa the restrained character typical of Scandinavian modernism.

The sofa has three independent seats and backrests upholstered in green fabric. The combination of natural wood and colourful upholstery captures the aesthetic of Danish and Swedish design of the 1960s, in which simple construction was often complemented by bold fabric colours. The sofa has retained very good proportions and can also be placed in the centre of a room, as its construction has been aesthetically considered from every angle.

The piece has undergone meticulous professional restoration, including the removal of old finishes, staining, and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. The cushions were remade to the original dimensions and upholstered in green fabric. As a result, the sofa looks excellent and will serve its new owner for many years, without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.

Erik Wørts (1916–1997) was a Danish designer and cabinetmaker who combined traditional furniture craftsmanship with the possibilities of industrial production. He began working with IKEA in the early 1960s, designing tables, chairs, sideboards, and sofas, among other pieces. His designs were distinguished by their simple construction, functionality, and respect for the quality of the material.

IKEA began working with Wørts in the early 1960s, and his furniture from this period is now considered among the more interesting examples of the company’s early design.
