An oak desk designed in the 1960s by Danish design duo Henning Jensen and Torben Valeur and manufactured by Dyrlund. This piece combines two furniture styles: Mid-Century Modern and Brutalism.

The desk presented here has a clearly defined, symmetrical composition. The case rests on two full drawer units—four drawers on each side—which gives the form rhythm and order. The central legroom is recessed and enclosed by a rear modesty panel, allowing the piece to look equally attractive when positioned in the centre of a room. A distinctive feature is the substantial rectangular legs with a frame construction, set beneath the box-like sections. This visually separates the case from the floor and creates an impression of lightness despite its solid form. Three open cabinets at the back allow the desk to be positioned in the centre of a study or room.

The drawer fronts are fitted with simple, horizontal handles made of solid wood. Their restrained form complements the geometric arrangement of the whole. The visible oak grain emphasises the natural character of the material, while the light finish highlights the grain structure without excessive contrast.

The piece has undergone meticulous, professional restoration, including the removal of old finishes, staining, and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. Thanks to this work, the desk looks superb and will serve its new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.

Torben Valeur was a qualified builder and architect who, after working in Professor Palle Suenson’s office, established a joint practice with Henning Jensen in 1960. Together, they created furniture designs and interior elements, combining a pragmatic architectural approach with the precision of cabinetmaking.

Henning Jensen was an architect who worked with Valeur in their joint design practice, where furniture and interior solutions were developed. Their work was characterised by restrained forms, well-considered proportions, and solid construction, in keeping with the Danish tradition of modernism and functional design of the era.
