Vintage writing desk, Denmark, 1960s
A Danish writing desk from the 1960s, this piece is an example of mid-century modern design, which placed emphasis on proportion, functionality and quality craftsmanship.

The piece is made of teak, valued in post-war Denmark for its durability, stability and distinctive, warm grain pattern. The design is based on a simple, compact form with six spacious drawers arranged in a single vertical bank. This layout emphasises the horizontal character of the fronts and showcases the natural grain pattern.

The fronts are fitted with routed handles made of solid teak. The handles have been shaped directly into the structure of the wood. This solution was widely used in the 1960s, when construction details were treated as an integral part of the design rather than as separate additions. As a result, the front remains visually uniform and orderly.

The writing desk stands on slender, slightly tapered legs that lend lightness to the form and raise the cabinet above the floor. This treatment was characteristic of Danish furniture from the period—it visually lightened the form and allowed more light into the space beneath the piece.

Thanks to its spacious drawers, this writing desk combines the storage function of a chest of drawers with that of a desk, as evidenced by its fold-down work surface. When unfolded, the depth of the work area ranges from 54.5 to 72 cm.

The piece is preserved in its original, very good condition, with minimal signs of use in the form of scratches and scuffs.
