Coffee table model FD 503, designed by Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen for the Danish company France & Søn in the 1960s. It is one of the more distinctive designs of Danish modernism from this period. The simple, elongated form is complemented by a subtly raised tabletop with softly rounded edges and slender, tapered legs. The structure is completed by characteristic, shaped crossbars running between the legs, which give the table a sense of lightness while also highlighting its refined construction.

The table is made of solid teak, whose natural grain is clearly visible on the tabletop and structural elements. The piece has undergone meticulous, professional restoration involving the removal of old finishes, staining, and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. As a result, the table looks beautiful and will serve its new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.

The FD 503 is a good illustration of the Kindt-Larsens’ approach to furniture design – a functional structure combined with refined woodworking details, without unnecessary decorative elements. Its slender silhouette and the open space between the tabletop and base make the table visually light, and it also presents well from a distance. The design represents classic Danish mid-century modernism, in which the quality of the material, proportion, and precision of execution play a particularly important role.

Tove Kindt-Larsen was one of the most important Danish female designers of the 20th century. Together with her husband, Edvard Kindt-Larsen, she designed furniture from the 1930s onward, and their work combined traditional Danish craftsmanship with a modernist approach to form. The FD 503 is one of their designs created for France & Søn.
