Vintage DS-50 leather armchair, De Sede, Switzerland, 1970s

Reclining armchair manufactured in Switzerland in the 1970s by the De Sede workshop. This is the DS-50 model from the Exclusiv line, designed collectively by De Sede’s designers. It is upholstered in thick, tanned buffalo leather with hand-stitched detailing, which has developed a natural patina and signs of wear over time. De Sede is considered one of the world’s leading manufacturers of leather furniture. The quality of the materials used, the care taken in its construction and the finished appearance of the product are testament to the highest standards in furniture making. The armchair features a reclining mechanism. Its solid frame is made of wood. This armchair is considered an icon of Swiss design, with a distinctive profile and a unique form that makes it an excellent fit for both industrial and modernist interiors. The maker’s mark is located beneath the seat.

De Sede began as a small but highly skilled saddlery workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland. The craftsmen there set out to transform the finest possible leather into seating furniture. Years of experience and meticulous attention to detail enabled them to create handmade leather furniture of exceptional quality. In 1965, the family business was transformed into a joint-stock company called de Sede AG, while remaining faithful to its original guiding principles. From that point on, the company grew rapidly: leading internationally renowned designers were brought on board, additional production facilities were opened and an international distribution network was established. The sophisticated designs, skilfully combining traditional techniques with precise Swiss craftsmanship, quickly earned the brand an international reputation. Today, De Sede is a leading producer of exclusive leather furniture.

The armchair is in original vintage condition. It has minor scuffs, scratches and a natural patina. The seat height is 36 cm.
