Exceptional rocking chair designed by legendary designer Ilmari Tapiovaara for the Finnish manufacturer Asko in the 1960s. The chair is made of wood. The black frame pairs perfectly with the warm brown seat, giving it a harmonious and timeless character. The piece is distinguished by its elegant, robust construction with characteristic curved rockers that flow seamlessly into the legs, providing stability and visual lightness. Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914–1999) was one of the most distinguished Finnish designers of the 20th century, known for harmoniously combining functionality, simplicity and natural materials. His work, rooted in Scandinavian modernism, is valued for its timeless design and comfort.

Asko is a Finnish design manufacturer founded in Lahti in 1918 by cabinetmaker Aukusti Avonius. In the 1930s, Asko expanded its sales offices beyond Finland and gained popularity among international interior designers thanks to its minimalist upholstered furniture. Asko is part of the canon of Scandinavian design history. Over the years, the company collaborated with many talented designers. Ilmari Tapiovaara, Tapio Wirkkala, Stefan Lindfors and Eero Aarnio are just a few of them. Today, the company no longer produces furniture, but it remains a popular and sought-after brand in the vintage auction market.

The chair has been preserved in original vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with its age. Minor scuffs. The seat height is 42 cm.
