Carl-Harry Stålhane was born in 1920 in Mariestad and died in 1990. He was a ceramicist, decorator and industrial designer. He began his career as a decorator at the Rörstrand manufactory, founded in 1726 – according to trade sources, he joined it in 1939 as Gunnar Nylund’s assistant – and eventually took over the artistic direction of the factory from Nylund. In the 1940s, these sources also report, he studied painting at the school of Isaac Grünewald and sculpture at the Académie Colarossi in Paris.

In the mid-1950s, he designed, among other things, the Blanca tableware range for Rörstrand – according to Iowa State University Museums, he began work on it in 1954. Alongside tableware, he created studio ceramics – the Iowa State University Museums collection includes one of his bowls.

In 1973, he left Rörstrand and founded his own Designhuset studio. According to the same trade sources, his work is held in the collections of, among others, Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and MoMA in New York. At MIDMOD, Stålhane’s ceramics appear as individual pieces from the secondary market.
