Zakłady Fajansu "Włocławek"

Wit Płażewski was a ceramics designer associated with Zakłady Fajansu we Włocławku. In 1957, he joined the team of artists at the factory’s model centre, which Elżbieta Piwek-Białoborska and Jan Sowiński had been associated with since 1953. Together, they created a new style of Włocławek faience, based on asymmetric forms and abstract decorations; the modernist trend dominated the factory’s production in 1957–1964.

Within the team, Płażewski was primarily responsible for developing new forms. In 1958, his designs included the figurines “Wesoły byczek” (pattern no. 242) and “Wiewióreczka” (pattern no. 259, white with cobalt flowers), as well as vase no. 403. His role in the Włocławek team is confirmed by scholarly publications (Rafalska 2019, Kostuch 2025). The designer’s dates of life could not be confirmed in reliable sources. At MIDMOD, faience from Włocławek appears as individual pieces from the secondary market.
